ME AGAINST THE WORLD

THIS IS DEDICATED TO THE GRANDPA FIGURE IN MY LIFE, PASTOR ADE BABALOLA AS HE CLOCKS 77 TODAY. AS YOUR DAYS ARE SO SHALL YOUR STRENGTH BE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABA, AND TO KAYODE&TOMI OLUTUNFESE, HAPPY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.

Have you ever woken up and there was this overwhelming feeling that you are in a fight against the world?

Now I experienced that a while ago. I got tired of everything that I just felt like, why is life like this’ gan sef’? I cannot tell you I know where this piece is facing but I will try to pass the message across the best way possible.

Its been a while life and the pursuit of daily bread allowed me to write, so pardon my rustiness .

There was an awful lot to do in the morning of the fateful day – I had stuff to read, animals to take care of. I also needed to go use a friend’s internet as mine was not doing well enough (you know which network does that -tongue in cheek). I buried myself into all of these taking it one at a time.

Electricity in its ‘scarceness’ made sure I half achieved. There was still a lot to do in the evening before I resumed my shift at work.

Stopping over at my friend with whom I had some things to do, I switched on my PC and waited to no avail for it to come up. The power button did but the screen didn’t. Thinking it was one of the occasional hitches, I removed and replaced the battery but the same thing happened yet again.

long-look

Sweat broke out on my forehead because I could not afford anything going wrong with the system. Lots of important stuff that had deadlines attached to them are on the PC and my day starts and ends on it mostly.

Memories came flooding at that instant. A fortnight before my computer’s issue, I lost the extra battery of my Blackberry phone. If you wonder why there is the need for an extra battery, ask a Nigerian. The week that followed the loss of the battery, my fowls went down with a disease and I lost some of them.

With the computer’s fault, I became a Mario Balotelli, asking “Why always me?”.

I felt I was fighting the battle with the whole world, a ‘me against the world kinda fight’. If that was not the case, why should I misplace my phone’s extra battery, lose fifteen or so birds and have my computer develop a fault at a time when I was broke. One did not even wait for the other, they all took their turns in quick succession. Then I remembered a friend’s saying that : good things happens in chain and also bad things too happens in chain, never alone!

I however shrugged it off and determined not to allow it to weigh me down. I understand that the battery got lost for a reason, one I don’t know yet anyway. The sick and dead birds happened but I did not die, neither did anyone associated with me die. This means despite the loss, I still have life and if I so desire, I will rear another set.

The faulty computer happened to give me a challenge, one I had to overcome on the way to ‘hammer’.

Shying away from all these challenges would only prove something – that I do not have the capacity to cope in the face of unsavoury situations.

You might be going through a similar or worse situation. Everything might seem to put you in a ‘me against the world’ situation. Don’t surrender to the situation. Get up, and take on the challenges one after the other. Do not be discouraged, it is only a phase; it shall pass.

Did I just write? Maybe, just maybe. Enjoy your weekend fam…

TAIWO, MTN PROJECT FAME SEASON 7

Tomiwa Olasiyan's Blog

Ladies and gentlemen, I humbly present to you, Taiwo Okunola, a contestant in the season 7 of this year’s MTN Project Fame West Africa, taking place in Lagos. Taiwo is a gentleman of distinction, calm-headed and enormously talented. He’s a final year Mech. engineering student of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

I first knew Taiwo Okunola when I swapped elementary schools as a small kid about 15 years ago to attend Julian Nursery & Primary school, Oluyoro, Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. I started the sch in class 3 (primary 3) and Taiwo was my sitting partner and best friend till graduation, as we remained close even after parting temporarily in class 4. Meanwhile that’s all a story for another day.

My first discovery of this young man’s knack for music was in that elementary sch., when towards our high school leaving exam, a music teacher was introduced to us who tutored everyone in…
